Blogging Marathon # 24 – 3 Day Marathon for 4 weeks!

Sharing is caring!

It was just couple of days before the new year and pretty late by then, when I was still awake, wondering how I will get myself be more regular in blogging on Spice your Life! As the name says, I wanted to focus on different aspects that make our life what it is. Not just food, but everything as such. While thinking I thought it will be fun if I do a marathon, which will force me to be consistent in posting. It was year 2010.
What started as a month long marathon with fellow bloggers, we went on to do a two week run with theme specific editions. Finally after a long run, we settled to do a 3 day Marathon every week on a monthly basis. I have a wonderful group, who sign up every month and expect me to challenge them to do the marathon, month after month. Without their support, BM would not have reached 23 Editions.
The new year begins with the BM # 24th Edition and we also have grand plans for the silver jubilee of this event. Imagine, how we celebrate a silver jubilee in real life, well this is nothing less than that. BM is very much a part of so many bloggers and I have been proud to have them all in my group. So a big thanks to all those wonderful bloggers who never fail to join in and make this a grand event every month.
For those of you who are landing here for the first time, then please check out these posts on Blogging Marathon, you can read about all the history, the thought process that’s gone in everything in one place in the BM#18 intro

For details on BM held every month, check out the Blogging Marathon page. Once I get all details I will be updating this page. Bloggers taking part in this marathon need to just link back to this page.
The entry is again by Sign ups and each theme will again have only 4 bloggers on first come first basis.
And because of the new rules I will not be able to accept late sign ups as it will become extremely hard for me to manage otherwise. If you feel you want to do it, please decide ahead, else you can join later.
Commenting on the week blogger’s post is mandatory.
And subscription to the group will be monthly basis.
If you want to know how the Blogging Marathon started, read the first edition
So the 24th edition will
3, 4, 5 January
10, 11, 12 January
17, 18, 19 January
24, 25, 26 January
Please email me at latest by 23rd December along with your theme.
FYI:  Requests to join after 23rd December will not be accepted.
Mandatory rules for this Blogging Marathon are as below:
  • Should take up 2 weeks of BM without fail. It can be any two weeks.
  • Will have to post on all 3 days with 2 weeks without fail
  • Same theme can’t be taken by one blogger.
  • Should follow the accepted theme all 3 days, meaning if you choose one topic like Rice, you should post all rice based recipes all 3 days.
  • Should link to the Blogging Marathon page.
  • Is expected to actively give feedback on others post.
  • Mandatory reading and commenting on fellow participating member.
Each theme can be selected by four bloggers on first come first bases.

Other rules will be mailed to the individuals.
Themes for BM # 24th will be the following:
Since having this theme is to make sure my Kid’s Delight event gets good entries, I thought it makes sense to have two themes based on the hosting time.
Kid’s Delight – Desserts (3,4,5 and 10,11,12)
Kid’s Delight – Lunch Box Recipes (17,18,19 and 24,25,26)
Kid’s Delight – Desserts (3,4,5 and 10,11,12)
For the Kid’s Delight happening in December, you might want to make some desserts for your Kids. We were almost wanting to make it Chocolate. Then we decided we would include the whole stuff to make it easy for the kids.
So send us any dessert that your Kids love and Veena would love to do a round up of those delicious treats!
Kid’s Delight –  Lunch Box Recipes (17,18,19 and 24,25,26)
PJ is starting the new year with a request for all to make Lunch Box recipes suitable for kids. These recipes needless to say, should be Kid approved and appropriate to be packed in a box for school.
Depending on your child’s age group, please mention in the post and along with other things that you will be packing for the kid.
Mixed Vegetables in different forms.
The vegetables to be mixed are
1. Potato, Beans and Carrot
2. Cauliflower, Peas and Potato
3. Cabbage, Peas and Carrot
If you select Potato Beans and Carrot, then with this you can make a starter, rice or a gravy or any other course as well.
Rule is with the same combination of vegetables you can make different course in a meal. You can’t make two gravies or two rice dishes. Each day should have different course of a meal.

Stuffed Bread
Yeast Bread with stuffing
Stuffed Indian Roti/Parathas with twist
Naan / Khula with stuffing
The twist can be a vegetable that’s not common in Indian cuisine or a spice, it can be anything from the regular Indian breads
Cooking with Kitchen Electric appliance
Under this, you need to post a recipe that uses any kitchen appliance excessively.
Like baking, where an oven is mandatory
Rice cooker / Slow cooker
Mixer / Grinder / Food processor (Simple grinding is not accepted, dishes like puree of onion and tomato, Idli or Dosa etc)
Sandwich maker / Grill
Basically any Kitchen Electric appliance can be used to prepared recipes for each day. And the entire or major part of the recipe needs to be done with the appliance aid. Like for making Idlis, the grinder / Mixer is very essential though finally a Steamer is required.
Again each day has to focus on one appliance.
Weaning Foods (Age Below 1 year) / Food for Toddlers (Age 1 – 3)
As the theme says, please share your recipes that you cook/cooked for your kids during this age period. I am sure there are many new moms who would benefit from this information.
Cooking from a Restaurant Menu
You can select any one menu from the below listed. However all three days should feature dishes from the same menu/Restaurant, one from each category listed.
For example if you select India House Vegetarian Restaurant , then you must make
One from Subah ho ya Shyam
One from Hari Bhari Sabjiyah
One from Hamari Pasand / Koyle Ki khan Se
Subah ho ya Shyam,
Hari Bhari Sabjiyah,
Hamari Pasand / Koyle Ki khan Se
Rice/ Noodles,
From Tandoori Kadai,
South Indian Special/ Chettinadu Mini Tiffin,
Thandak Ke Jharoke / Garam Shorbe,
Shuruvat / Tandoor Se
Dum Pukht Biryani / Chaawal Ki Deg Se
kadai Se / Bagh e Bahar
Chinese Menu
Basmati Rice / Indian Breads
Please email me your doubts if you have
Gravies from 3 different states
One protein based
One Vegetable based
One lentil based (not sambar or pappu or tadka dals)
Should be liquid based and not dry sautes

  1. Congrats on completing 2 years of BM, Valli. Sure time flies by, didn't realize that eventhough we keep adding the edition number besides the word "BM" in each marathon we participate. 🙂
