Dhaba Style Dal Fry

For Pressure Cooking:

  • 3 tbsp Toor Dal
  • 3 tbsp Moong Dal
  • 3 tbsp Chana Dal
  • 3 tbsp Urad dal
  • 3 tbsp Masoor Dal
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 2 cups Water

For Tempering:

  • 1 tbsp Ghee
  • 1 tbsp Cooking Oil
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • A pinch Asafetida
  • 1 tsp Ginger finely grated
  • 1 tsp Garlic freshly minced
  • 2 nos Green Chilli chopped
  • 2 nos Dry Red Chillies broken
  • 1/2 cup Onion finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Chilli Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 3/4 cup Water as required
  • 2 tbsp Coriander leaves finely chopped


  • In a pressure cooker, take all the dals and wash well. Add three times water along with turmeric powder, pressure cook till soft. Wait for the pressure to fall down.
  • In a nonstick pan, heat oil and ghee, temper with cumin seeds, asafetida and then add the chopped green chillies, dry chillies, grated and crushed ginger and garlic. Saute for 2 mins.
  • Then add the chopped onions, saute till browned. Add the cooked dal, enough water along with salt. Add the chilli powder. and simmer till dal thickens.
  • Add finely chopped coriander leaves.
  • Serve with rotis.
