Alasandalu Bonda | Black Eyed Pea Potato Bonda

Ingredients

For the Outer Layer

  • 1 cup Besan / Gram Flour
  • Salt to Taste
  • 1/2 tsp Red Chilli Powder

For the stuffing

  • 1 cup Black Eyed Peas / Alasandalu
  • 1 small Potato approx. 1/4 to 1/2 cup
  • 1 tsp Chat Masala
  • 3 to 4 Green Chilies
  • Few spigs Coriander Leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • Cooking Oil for deep frying

Instructions

For the Stuffing

  • Wash and soak the black eyed pea for 10 mins, pressure cook till soft.
  • MW the potato for 3 mins. Peel the skin and mash well.
  • Check if the beans are cooked, drain the excess water and mash it well.
  • Add boiled potato to the mashed bean along with chopped chilies, salt, and chat masala.
  • Mix everything and make sure the stuffing is thick.

For the Outer Layer

  • In a bowl, mix the besan with salt and chili powder.
  • Make a smooth batter with just as much required water.

Making the bondas,

  • Heat a kadai with oil.
  • Make small balls of the stuffing, drop into the thick batter.
  • Let it coat all over well, and when the oil is hot, gently drop in the stuffed bondas.
  • Drai on a kitchen towel and serve hot with sauce.
