Kudaalu | Sweet Poornam Kudalu

Kudaalu or Sweet Poornam Kudalu are Ganesh Chathurthi special dish made with maida pockets stuffed with a sweet filling made with coconut and jaggery.

Ingredients

For the Outer Layer

  • 1 cup All Purpose Flour / Maida
  • A Pinch Salt
  • Water to knead
  • 2 tsp Cooking Oil

For the Filling/ Stuffing

  • 1/2 cup Coconut freshly grated
  • 1/2 cup Jaggery
  • A Pinch Cardamom Powder

Instructions

  • In a bowl take the maida with salt and oil, mix well.
  • Then slowly add water to knead to a stiff dough.
  • Cover and let it rest for 15 mins.
  • Meanwhile make the stuffing ready by grating the coconut.
  • Melt the jaggery in just enough water and remove impurities if any.
  • Next add the grated coconut and cardamon powder.
  • Continue to cook till the mixture comes together.
  • To make the kudaalu, divide the dough into equal balls.
  • Dust and roll out into 3 to 4 inch discs.
  • Place a spoonful of the stuffing in the center and bring the outer side of the discs to enclose the stuffing as a half moon.
  • Pinch on the sides for the pleats to close well.
  • Heat a kadai with oil, when hot, simmer and deep fry the Sweet Poornam Kudalu on both sides.
  • Drain on a kitchen towel.
  • Serve as prasadam before partaking.
