Instructions

How to make the Microwave Sooji Dhokla

  • In a bowl, take all the ingredients and mix well. The consistency should quite loose and not very pouring consistency, but fairly enough.
  • Grease the Microwave bowl with cooking oil, just before adding the batter, add the ENO. Gently stir well.
  • Pour the batter into the bowl and pat down.
  • Microwave for 3 mins. Open and turn around, again Microwave for 2 mins.
  • Let it rest for couple of mins.
  • Now, in another microwave bowl, add 1 - 2 tsp of cooking oil, add mustard, sesame seeds. Microwave for 30 secs.
  • When done, add 2 tbsp water along with 1/4 tsp sugar. Microwave for 1 Min.
  • Once done, pour this over the cooked Dhokla.
  • Serve hot with sauce or green chutney.

Notes

Consistency is very important to get soft Dhokla. Though my Dhokla was soft, even while making it I thought I should have soaked the Rava in curds for 10 mins. So, next time I will surely soak and make it again.
I didn't cover the bowl while cooking, you can see if it is needed. However, as it is known each Microwave oven is different and you will have to experiment with it.
If you are not comfortable doing the tempering in microwave, you can do the regular way on stovetop.
Since this theme demands that I do everything, I went ahead. Apart from mustard, Sesame, green chilies, coconut, coriander leaves can also be used for the final garnish.
