This sandwich masala is a special spice powder used to sprinkle over Mumbai Special Sandwiches. This spice powder gives it a special kick that takes the taste to a whole new level.

I have read enough about the popular sandwiches that are sold in the Mumbai roadside and this masala powder seems to be the special one that adds more flavour to the whole thing.

I decided to make some condiments for this week, and I had this spice powder bookmarked from Vaishali, I thought I might as well make this at home as my kids love sandwiches and I can use this for their special ones. First of all, the Bombay special Sandwich Masala recipe is very simple and only calls for ingredients that are commonly available in your pantry.

Also having an easy recipe for making Homemade Sandwich Masala helps, and furthermore Vaishali had made this for one of the mega BM. I make quite a few spice mixes at home that help us recreate the taste when we cook at home. Similarly, I have other special spice blends like this Dabeli Masala or this Goan Xacuti Curry Powder which help make some delicious street food special dishes.

    Ingredients

    2 tsp Cumin Seeds
    2 Cloves
    1 tsp Peppercorns whole
    4 tsp Fennel Seeds
4 tsp Amchur / Dry Mango Powder
    1 Star Anise
    1 no Cinnamon small stick
2 tsp Black Salt / Kala Namak
    Rock Salt to taste

How to make the Sandwich Masala

    Heat a nonstick pan.
Add cumin seeds, cloves, peppercorns, star anise, and cinnamon.
First of all, make sure the flame is low, else you will scald the spices.
Also, make sure you keep tossing around the spices and continue roasting till the spices release a wonderful aroma.
This should take about 2-3 minutes.
Remove from fire, let the spices cool down a little.
    Grind them in a mixer.
To the mixer, add dry mango powder, black salt, and rock salt.
Give it a quick pulse and remove it.
Allow to cool down and store in a jar.
