Happy Deepawali to all my readers!
We are starting the second week of BM#58. I will be doing Salads this week. If you have followed my rants, you would know that salads are not something that I make so often. It's not that I do not like it, it's just I don't know why I don't want to have it much. As such other than the regular onion or cucumber salad, nothing else gets done most times.

Today's salad is the simplest of all, the Kachumber. It's the fresh onion, cucumber and tomato salad, dressed in just salt and lemon. There is not much of a recipe. However, the way one makes it and makes it a part of the thali, gets this simple salad to the next level. I had made this as part of the Gujarati Thali

Do also check out the Masala Chitranna for a delicious spicy mixed rice idea.

Kachumber | Fresh Tomato, Cucumber, Onion Salad

    Ingredients Needed:

    Onions, juliennes - 1 cup
Tomato, finely chopped - 1 cup
    Cucumber - 1 cup
Green Chilies, finely chopped - 2 to 3 medium
    Coriander Leaves - 2 tbsp
    Lemon Juice -1  tsp
    Salt to taste

    How to make the Salad

Wash and peel the vegetables. Chop green chilies finely.

In a bowl mix all the vegetables along with green chilies, coriander leaves. Chill till serving.

Just before serving, add lemon juice and salt. Mix well and serve.

This salad works well in a thali just as it does with a simple pulao.

I too am not a salad fan but the rest of my family is. As Varada mentioned, this works out for a thali.

I second Varada. My North Indian Thali is not complete without this salad.

This is one recipe that I found in many cookbooks abroad as well. It's very popular despite the simplicity. Good choice Valli
