I had selected this thali with a special note to make this halwa, and when I had tasted it right off the pan, it tasted heavenly! I persuaded hubby dear to taste this, he did and said it lived up to all the claims I was having. Yet as he was preoccupied with work, I was left alone to enjoy the entire treat.
Suji Halwa |
At the same time, I miss the thrill of discussing the different ways to make something, having an evil grin on seeing the look at the unsuspecting folks, the mad rush that pumps up the adrenalin. Well life is always like this!
Coming back to the recipe, try this and enjoy this sinful treat as soon as you can..:)
Suji Halwa
Ingredients Needed
Suji/ Semolina - 1 cup
Ghee - 1/2 cup
Besan / Gram flour - 4 tsp
Sugar - 3/4 cup
Brown Sugar - 1/4 cup
Cashews new - handful
Cardamom powder a pinch
Water - 2 cups
How to make the Suji Halwa
Melt ghee in a non stick pan, then add the suji and roast well. This takes about 10 - 15 mins depending on the flame. If you are stirring constantly you can get this done soon.
Then add the besan and saute well. The raw smell should leave and should start letting out a wonderful aroma.
At this point add the sugars, combine well. When it's all mixed well, add 2 cups of lukewarm water and simmer with a lid covered.
Let it continue cooking till the halwa is dry and well cooked. Finally add the roasted nuts and serve.

You have really described my feelings for BM. I do miss the 7 day adrenaline rush, but its better now that its laid back as you can accommodate more things into your life now. I guess we will all learn to love this BM, but only after we get over the initial 'Oh no! Is it already over?!' phase.
BTW sooji halwa really looks very very yumm!
