Narali Bhat - A to Z Maharashtrian Sweets
We are on N today and I had choices like NaraLi Paak and Naralachi Vadi, where both the dishes are the same, with just the name change. I have a Coconut Paak or Vadi. We are on N today and I had choices like NaraLi Paak and Naralachi Vadi, where both the dishes are the same, with just the name change. I have a Coconut Paak or Vadi, I have a Coconut Ladoo as well. I also have a Narali Bhat or Sweet Coconut rice, much like the Sakkarai Pongal or bellam paramannam. I am not able to find that recipe and wonder if I have posted it or not. I also have a coconut ladoo, maybe I am yet to post it. It was quite confusing trying to look back into my index to figure out.
I wanted to pick up recipes that are not common across states, though that's not possible with sweets. And with the clause of AtoZ happening it was extremely tough. So I had to stick with what the best option I had.
Also, I make Narali Bhat differently and with much less time. However, to make sure I follow the way it is prepared, I cooked exactly as how it was said. The taste was as expected, very delicious, however, next time I will follow my pressure cooker way. This surely makes a wonderful Neivedyam.
This was also part of my weekend marathon cooking. So with so many other sweets to enjoy, hubby dear and Konda refused to even look at this dish which according to them was regular Sakkarai Pongal. So I shared it with Amma, Athamma and the rest enjoyed it all by myself. Of course, you should have seen the looks my boys were giving me. That weird look that said what is she crazy in dishing out so many sweets but nothing for us to eat, and that too on a weekend. I just said you either eat this and be on the sideline. This is for the Mega BM and I can't afford to slip on my schedule. Well as if they understand what Mega BM is!
I have stopped explaining my BM schedules to them, even though Konda keeps following the linky tool and checks the other posts. The first day she was confused and asked why Vaishali aunty was posting something different and not Maharashtrian Sweets. I again had to explain to her about this theme. I am not sure if she understood, her looks said we were crazy!
Anyway, I am happy if she just enjoys my sweets and not bother about the theme much!
Narali Bhat
Notes:Even with 1 cup jaggery, I felt the sweetness was mild, so increase as per taste.
So ensure you cook the rice completely, else by the end of the second stage the rice will become hard.

Lol.. My kiddo helps during food photo session and asks me to show whenever the post goes live. Soon he might ask about the themes and stuff I believe. We call this as vella sadam and prepare during adi perukku. I thinks its just the family thing. Making 26 sweets is not an easy task.

Coconut in sweet rice would have tasted very nice and flavorful.

It does looks sakkar pongal. If one didn't know the name of the dish or what went into it, it could easily be confused for sweet pongal. Oh, poor boys, they must have felt so left out..

My mother makes a dry sweet Pongal and your version looks like it. I can guess how yummy it is.
Your twins don't eat sweets? My daughter doesn't touch the sweet stuff too unless it is chocolate based or Mysore pak. She is neither interested in what is being cooked at home nor in consuming it. She is interested in my blog only when she gets to read about herself or a funny anecdote.

Valli , anything with coconut is delicious , however if one has a feast of dishes obviously it would get hard to choose . Well , we definitely are a crazy lot at the mega BM , lot of people think so , but who cares , we enjoy it .????

I try not to explain anything to my family. I am sure now itself they think that I am crazy. And if I try talking too much about themes, then they would confirm it. Lol. This bath looks so nice and with coconut, it must be so flavourful..
The Pumpkin Farm says
LOL valli..if not your family who else would understand our work any better...this one looks to die for...and i can understand your position...consumign sweets one after the other when you did regular BMs must have been a daunting task...really appreciate u for that

That is such a yummy looking sweet coconut rice Valli.
Can't help smiling reading about explaining about our BM rules and themes to the family, especially the kids. It sure is hilarious 😉 I don't think my kids know what I do -- my daughter thinks I 'work' on the computer as if I'm doing office work. My son doesn't seem to care what I do as long as he's fed 🙂
Love your reply to the kids about staying on the sidelines or eat what was made. ROFL 🙂 🙂

It becomes so much more interesting when kids want to understand what is happening with our blogging. There are times when they cannot stand the need for photographing each and every thing I cook and then there are times when they fight to be my subject. This dry version of coconut bhaath looks really interesting.
Chef Mireille says
this sweet spiced rice is my kind of snack
Ruchi Indu says
this would be an ideal snack for the kids... that too in their holiday time
