We are starting the third week of BM#48, and I will be sharing some of my kids' favourite dishes and favourite ingredients - The cheese. This month's Kid's Delight is hosted by PJ, who wants us to showcase Cheese star dishes.
For day 1, I made this delicious Chili Cheese Toast, which is made very similar to French Toast, but this one is savory. My Nephew and Niece had come down for Sankranthi vacation and we had gone to Tirumala visit. The day they visited us, I made this for their breakfast and they all loved it.
Chilli Cheese Toast
Ingredients Needed:
Bread Slices - 10
Cheese, grated - 1 cup
Milk - 2 cups
Salt to taste
Green Chilies - 3 -4 nos
Baking powder 1 tsp
Pepper powder as required
Coriander leaves - 1 tbsp
Table Butter as required
How to make the Chili Cheese Toast
In a bowl, add grated cheese, green chili, coriander leaves to the milk along with salt, baking powder. Whisk well to make sure it gets blended well. Keep it aside for 10 mins.
When you are ready to toast, heat a nonstick pan with butter, place the bread slices on the melted butter. Pour one tsp or two depending on the bread slice, on top, and simmer.
Let it cook slowly till the bottom becomes crispy.
Then gently flip on the other side and cook again. The water from milk will come out and it might sizzle for a while, simmer and cook till it becomes dry. This might take a couple of mins, depending on how you cook it.
Serve hot right away.
Notes:
First I tried spreading the cheese milk on both sides, however, it was not easy to manage the bread slice as it becomes very soggy. This can't be cooked like french toast, which was how I wanted to try.
Spreading only on one side and cooking gets you the perfect crispy toast.
